2011.03.14 - Libya crisis: emergency response
The anti-authoritarian protests in the Arab countries has also affected Libya now. Pro-democracy rebels began demonstrations mid February and are posing a serious threat to the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddhafi.
Civil unrest has led to hundreds of thousands of refugees at the borders of neighboring countries Tunesia and Egypt. An estimated million refugees are still left in country.
To support these refugees IMRES has dispatched several IEHK emergency kits for various US and UK aid organizations. One kit provides pharmaceuticals and medical supplies for approximately 10,000 people for three months.
IMRES is keeping multiple IEHK's on standby to provide additional assistance to this humanitarian crisis situation.
