2011.05.24 - Civil war Ivory Coast
On May 21, Alassane Ouattara was inaugurated as president of Ivory Coast. After months of unsuccessful negotiations and sporadic violence, the crisis in the West African nation had entered a critical stage, affecting hundreds of thousands by pro-Ghagbo and pro-Ouattara clashes.
Now most Ivorians hope this official presidential inauguration ceremony will end the decade of conflict. International organizations reported numerous instances of human rights violations. At least three thousand people were killed and more than a million displaced in the crisis of this Ivorian civil war.
To respond to this humanitarian crisis, IMRES has dispatched various emergency shipments with pharmaceuticals, supplies and medical kits. These are to be used in the refugee camps, both in country and in neighboring countries such as Liberia, where thousands of displaced people have fled to.
